When We Need You
From 30/05/2008 onwards
About Opportunity
We need help from anyone interested in the environment with local knowledge and contacts. This opportunity is a good way of meeting new people, and of feeling useful in your community. You may know of groups who are fund-raising for something in particular who would like to do a sponsored clean-up. You will be helping to raise money for them and for a water aid assisted water scheme in the third world. Not least it is such a pleasure to go down on to a beach after it has been cleaned. We have such beautiful ones but so often they are despoiled by litter. Children have involved their parents in clean-ups and it is heartening to hear volunteers of all ages comment on the difference their efforts have made.
About Western Isles Beach Clean Up
To promote clean beaches throughout the Western Isles through organised sponsored beach clean-ups. To raise money for the litter-pickers group funds. To raise money for a specific wateraid assisted water scheme.
Skills & Experience
No experience is necessary but communication skills are helpful. If you are keen to help improve our environment and like meeting and talking to people, then this is opportunity might suit you very well.
Travel Details
We are looking for groups to do clean-ups in Lewis, Harris, The Uists and Barra. The most littered beaches appear to be on the west side. You may be glad of your own transport, especially if you want to join in with any of the clean-ups.
