About Opportunity
Would you like to host a tea party for elderly people in your own home? We ask you to host a tea party just ONCE or TWICE A YEAR, but you are of course welcome to hold it more often if you wish! Many older people feel isolated, so a trip to see new people and make friends makes a great difference to them. Once a month, on a Sunday afternoon, a small group of volunteer drivers (3-4) pick up 6-8 older people and together they visit a Volunteer Host for afternoon tea for a couple of hours. It is the same divers and members that get together each month and they visit the home of a different Host each month, but visit them year after year. The older people are over 75, live alone and haven't got anyone to share thoughts with, so for them these regular outings are a lifeline, and you will have as much fun as them! Our Hosts provide a warm and friendly atmosphere and an afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes for the older people and the volunteer drivers. Hosts must have a downstairs toilet, few or no steps into the house and seating for five or more older people. HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED? "If you are interested in this opportunity please get in touch with us using the contact details on this page. Alternatively you can register your interest directly using the Register Interest facility". If you do not receive a response within [5] working days, please contact the Volunteer Centre. It generally takes around [4-6 weeks] after you contact us to get you started.

About Contact the Elderly in Scotland
Contact the Elderly aims to relieve the acute loneliness and isolation of people over the age of 75. We do this by organising small groups of volunteer drivers who take our elderly members to a volunteer host’s home for tea one Sunday afternoon a month. The group is warmly welcomed by a different host each month, but the drivers remain the same which means that over the months and years, acquaintances turn into friends and loneliness is replaced by companionship.
