About Opportunity

Volunteers will be asked to have a short interview to discuss their interests and will be shown around the centre when there will be an opportunity to ask questions. A current Disclosure Scotland check will need to be completed before starting any sessions at the centre. Volunteers are not required to assist service users with personal care nor people handling/lifting but are asked to assist people in the activity, therefore enabling service users to get as much enjoyment out of the session as possible. Staff are always present during activities. Day centre officers organise and run the activities and assist service users with their personal care. They are available for advice and will resolve any issues should they arise. Senior day centre officers are also available if required. Some of our more vulnerable service users may have visual/ hearing impairments, mobility issues, epileptic seizures - therefore volunteers need to be aware of this in terms of health and safety. We know that many of our service users have gained very positive experiences from past and current volunteers and we feel that having a few more people involved in the above activities would be of great benefit to everyone at Rosehill.

About Aberdeen City Council - Rosehill House Day Centre

Rosehill House Day Centre is a Social Work establishment for adult service users with learning disabilities. It is a busy day centre with a happy, lively atmosphere where over 100 people attend during the week from Monday to Friday 9 – 4pm. Day centre officers and care assistants encourage service users to participate in a wide variety of recreational and educational activities within a caring, supportive environment. We are looking for volunteers with a positive, outgoing attitude who are interested in giving up some of their free time each week to come and assist us in our group activities. This type of voluntary work can also be useful for individuals who want to gain some care experience in a day centre environment or in groupwork. Our weekly programme of activities include the following: line dancing, bingo, scottish country dancing, percussion/live music, drawing/art, beauty/personal care, baking, computing, sewing/knitting, table games, crafts.
