About Opportunity

The British Red Cross helps people in crisis whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives About Opportunity Volunteers are required to use their own cars to convey older/frail folk from their home to medically related appointments, i.e. Chemist, Dentist, Chiropodist, etc. This service is only available in Lerwick. All drivers are entitled to claim motor mileage allowance

Volunteers need to be fit enough to help frail clients in and out of the car if necessary. Training in manual handling is available

A volunteer Co-ordiantor is available to support, as well as the Services Manager

All volunteers regardless of the role they undertake are entitled to claim legitimate expenses e.g. mileage @ 40p per mile.
