About An Sulaire Trust

An Sulaire Trust is based at Lewis in the Western Isles of Scotland and is a registered charity which owns and sails the only full size sgoth niseach (Ness Boat) in existence

An Sulaire is a link to the Hebrides historic past and is simply one of the most increadible sailing experiences available . An Sulaire Trust was formed in 1993 to build and maintain a full size sgoth niseach (Ness Boat). These boats were used in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by the fishermen of north east Lewis to win a living from the sea... none survive from the fleets that were once counted in the hundreds.

An Sulaire was bult by John Murdo Macleod, Master Boatbuilder, whose grandfather's boatyard was the last to build commercially, and his assistant Angus Smith. She was launched in December 1994 at Cuddy Point, Stornoway.
