About Opportunity

The computers in the trainers rest room have micrsoft office software and are linked to a printer. Our hope is to find a volunteer interested in developing a dual function for this room to teach basic computer and office skills. As many of our trainers have no experience of office skills/computer operation, they can be very nervous and apprehensive of undertaking this new opportunity. Some have impaired hearing, sight or mobility, so a measure of patience will be called for, as will the ability to explain things in a way they can understand with as little jargon as possible. You will be making an invaluable contribution to the lives of our trainees and to this exciting community project and would be helping it to reach its full potential over the years to come

About Mill of Benholm Project

Mill of Benholm is a working waterwheel mill museum open to visitors, renovated in 1994. Walking down the track from the car park into the little tree lined valley is a journey back in time to ancient buildings bordered with wild flowers clustered around a millpond with tumbling sounds of a stream by a tearoom patio.

Mill of Benholm Trust is a Charity founded to provide community support for adult learners. We have a tearoom and shop, and in 2009 are establishing a garden centre. These facilities provide work experience and training for people with extra support needs who work Monday to Fridays. Our aim is to prepare our trainees for regular employment but they are welcome with us until such time as they find work elsewhere.

We have part time paid supervisors and staff but would much more effective if there were volunteers interested in taking specific responsibilities for developing the potential of this beautiful and historic site.
