About Opportunity

To assist the reserves co-ordinator with all maintenance tasks, such as fencing,coppicing, dyking, carpentry and strimming, etc. Some of these tasks will require a residential stay on outlying reserves. To assist the reserves co-ordinator with all volunteer activities, and on occasion guide other volunteers unsupervised.To assist the Handa Island ranger in site management, seabird monitoring and dealing with the public.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust protects and campaigns for Scotland's wildlife, helping Scotland's communities to enjoy Scotland's wildlife. SWT manage 126 wildlife reserves throughout Scotland.

Skills & Experience

You are required to be fit and to have a driving licence. Initiative, flexibility, enthusiasm and confidence are essential. General practical skills and a desire to pursue a career in the countryside.

Travel Details

You will be based at the North Office at Tore, just north of Inverness. It has a well equipped workshop. You will work on reserves throughout the Highlands and Islands and the right candidate may have the opportunity to help with more detailed work on Handa Island and further afield. Own transport required to get to Tore in the morning where transport will be provided to reserves if necessary.

Hours are 8am to 4pm Monday to Thursday. A minimun time commitment of 6 months is required. Some residential weeks throughout the season may be possible.
