About Opportunity
Sports Driving Unlimited provides opportunities for people of all ages to experience the thrill and excitement of pony driving. Participants benefit from learning new skills and developing self confidence which then positively impact on their every day lives. The activity is provided on a sessional basis by a professional trainer and her team supported by volunteers. Some sessions that are provided at other locations require an early morning start. Volunteers contribute to the activity by assisting in a range of tasks including: Preparation of ponies and carriages prior to sessions Support of the participants and their family or carers "Ground staff" during pony driving sessions Engaging participants in non-driving pony care sessions Care of the ponies on the yard Cleaning of tack and carriages Preparation and cleaning of the area.

About Sports Driving Unlimited
We aim to provide people, of all ages, who are disadvantaged or with a disability or health problems opportunities to participate in pony driving to promote fulfilment and benefit to their mental and physical health as a basis for educational and learning purposes. This includes involvment with the care and preparation of the ponies as well as active participation in pony driving.
Skills & Experience
Essentail to have an interest in working with people of all ages who have a disability or are disadvantaged. Essential not to be fearful of ponies and have an interest in equestrian activity, though no previous experience of working with ponies needed.
Travel Details
The activity takes place either at Chariots of Fire at Boreland, Lockerbie or at another equestrian centre in D&G or Cumbria. The volunteer would need to be able to make their own way to Boreland. If the activity takes place elsewhere there will be transport from Borelands to the venue.

Training and Induction Details
Each volunteer will be introduced to the facilities, other people and ponies; they will be given an explaination of the activity and their duties and responsibilities including a copy of the good practice guidance.
