LGBT Youth Scotland supports young people between 13 and 25 in the Scottish Borders. To provide advice and support anywhere in the Borders. Safe online space to chat to other young people. Provide events and activities. Enable young people to have their voices heard.
Skills & Experience
An understanding of lgbt issues is vital. A person needs to be understanding, non-judgemental, have a sense of humour and ability to plan and engage with a diverse range of people. Youth work or social care experience preferred. Driving license helpful
Travel Details
At the moment the youth group is in Galashiels, at the Langlee Complex every Wednesday from 5.30-7.30pm. Due to the rurality of the location, a driving license would be preferred – a lot of our young people require transportation to and from events. If volunteers were willing to be involved in this, full travel expenses would be allocated and would also be done with another adult present in the car. Restrictions
This restriction applies as our service provision is for young people aged 13-25. It would therefore be inappropriate for us to have youth work assistants the same age as service users. We are also very interested in engaging with older people to come alo

Training and Induction Details
An informal ‘Volunteer Request Form’, then a face to face interview. Induction is a one-day training course in youth work and lgbt diversity. This will also include going over our volunteer policy and handbook. On-going training will be available.

Expenses Detail
Expenses are generally paid monthly in arrears, although this can be negotiated to be paid in advance or weekly if this is required by the individual volunteer. This can be discussed at induction.
