About Opportunity
Specific Tasks Awareness Campaign: Volunteers will inform Africans on HIV testing, display & distribute leaflets. They may also role play/participate in drama at African targeted events In addition they may speak at African gatherings such as parties, funerals, church meetings, forums, focus groups & group work on HIV. They may signpost service users to appropriate services eg "C" Card etc. Prevention Work: Volunteers will distribute condoms, engage with African youths or adults on sexual health issues. Support Services: Provision of emotional/practical support at meetings, escorting individuals to appointments. Development Activities: Volunteere to attend meetings on sexual health issues, attend training meetings, have up to date information on HIV issues Volunteers will develop skills & be supported with career options. Waverley Care African Health Project provides information and support to Africans in Scotland and in particular the project aims to: improve access to health care generally, improve access to HIV testing and provide information and support to HIV positive Africans

Training and Induction Details
Volunteers will be provided with knowledge and skills in delivery of community outreach work for Africans on sexual and reproductive health including HIV, improving access to health, access to HIV testing and information/support to HIV.

Expenses Detail
Volunteers receive help towards travel expenses up to the cost of an All Day ticket on Glasgow buses. If you work more than 4 hours, help will be given towards the cost of meals

Frequency & Commitment
A minimum of 4 hours per week. Volunteers have choices of flexible hours. Timing of volunteering will be based on community outreach events. Volunteers will be informed of scheduled dates of events.
