About Opportunity
Join our team of Community Gardeners, working to improve the local environment in Toryglen and learning or sharing skills in growing fruit, flowers, herbs and vegetables. All ages, genders and cultures welcome. The volunteer team of Community Gardeners meet weekly to plan, create and develop our community gardens around Toryglen. We have 5 gardens that are open to the public at all times in different places around Toryglen, and we also help local schools to develop their gardens and we have a number of small community orchards and composting areas. Volunteers work together and co-operatively to learn new skills – from joinery and soft landscaping to horticulture, orchard care and composting. No previous experience is necessary to take part but those with skills and experience are always welcomed. The group currently comprises men and women from a range of different cultures and backgrounds and with various levels of ability. We also have a separate women’s group that meets on a different day. Please note this opportunity is only available to those living in Rutherglen or Cambuslang.

About Urban Roots
We are a small environmental and health organisation with a range of projects to our name including community gardens, environmental education, conservation groups and a fruit barra. We involve local people and volunteers in everything we do, and will always try to match a volunteer with what they want to do. We are based in Toryglen but will accept volunteers from Rutherglen, Cambuslang and other areas not too far away. People we work with come from right across the age spectrum, from different genders and a range of cultural backgrounds.
