About Opportunity

NHS Dumfries and Galloway is committed to improving the experience of its patients in hospitals. Under the supervision of the ward team, providing companionship and friendship to patients is the role of this volunteer placement. We would ask volunteers to undertake activities like engaging patients in conversation, reading to them, playing cards and games and possibly artwork improves social interaction for both patients and volunteers. This can allow volunteers the opportunity to learn new skills, whilst at the same time using the skills they already have to engage and interact with patients who have dementia.
