About Opportunity
VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY REQUIRED FOR NEXT TRAINING COURSE STARTING AUGUST 2010. As a Brighter Futures Peer Mentor Volunteer you will be able to use the skills and experience you have built up during your lifetime to help an older person become less isolated and enhance their mental health and well-being. Mentoring is a one to one relationship based upon trust, confidentiality and mutual involvement. Mentoring works particularly well with people who are at risk of exclusion from society. Peer support is very effective when helping someone regain confidence and developing their skills. Both volunteer and the individual requiring support will be over the age of 50, in the hope that they can identify with each other and the volunteer can understand the issues or concerns the individual may have surrounding later life. Mentoring involves supporting an individual to achieve their identified goals. You will visit your matched participant on an agreed basis and support them to participate in opportunities and activities of interest to them, thus enabling them to become more actively involved in their community. HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED? You should contact us ideally by telephone, write to us or email [using the contact details on the right/select the APPLY! button]. If you do not receive a response within [5] working days, please contact the Volunteer Centre. The next step is to make arrangements for an informal chat. It generally takes around [2 – 3 months] after you contact us and have completed your training to get you started volunteering.
