About Opportunity

To distribute Guide Dogs Enquiry literature, visit distribution points on a regular basis and, promote our services out in the community and with key agencies. You must be able to understand and be able to explain the leaflets to prospective enquirers, dispelling the myths surrounding Guide Dog ownership, pass enquiries onto the Information Officer and appropriate District Teams within 24 hours of receiving them. You'll be required to attend local events with staff members or on your own with supporting literature. You will be able to respond to questions that are of a non-technical nature regarding enquiring for a guide dog and identify where Guide Dog literature should be displayed. Don't worry - we'll show you how. HOW TO GET INVOLVED: You can telephone us or email us using the contact details on the right/select the REGISTER INTEREST button. We will contact you within 5 working days. If you don't hear from us within that time contact the Volunteer Centre. We will then get in touch and send you an application pack which you should complete and return to us as soon as possible. You should be able to start volunteering with us within 4 weeks of initial contact. This is dependant on how quickly you return the paperwork to us.

About Guide Dogs For The Blind Association

To provide guide dogs mobility and other rehabilitation services that meet the needs of blind and partially sighted people.

Skills & Experience

We need people with their own car who are able to travel to different locations. You will need to be a good team worker and have excellent communication skills. Honesty, reliability and enthusiasm are the main qualities we need from our volunteers.

Travel Details

These events happen throughout Scotland. You will decide your area of work with your support worker when you join us.

Restrictions

Guide Dog Association for the Blind guidelines state that people under 18 years cannot undertake this type of volunteering opportunity.

Training and Induction Details

Guide Dogs Association for the Blind will offer induction training so that volunteers are familiar with the working practices and policies of the organisation. Ongoing support and training will be offered by support staff who are always available.

Expenses Detail

Travel expenses are paid when agreed in advance with Support Worker. Petrol costs are reimbursed at 40p per mile. Public transport costs reimbursed on production of valid tickets.

This is flexible and can be negotiated with the Guide Dog Association for the Blind staff members.
