About Opportunity

Help alongside the staff of the Day Hospice, helping to create a relaxed, friendly and caring atmosphere for patients. The volunteer input allows staff to be freed up to carry out treatments etc, but staff helps alongside volunteers also. Involved in preparation and serving of various drinks throughout the day. Responsible for the operation of the dishwasher and to cope with all the dirties from the various breaks and lunch. Responsible for setting tables for lunch and assisting with serving of lunch. Volunteers are able to get alongside patients and become involved in the various activities where appropriate when the practical tasks are done.

About The Ayrshire Hospice

The Ayrshire Hospice has been extremely supportive of the Hospice since it began. The Voluntary Service Department within the Hospice co-ordinates the offers of help which come from individuals in the community.

Skills & Experience

Ability to relate well with a variety of people, who may have a variety of needs, to be flexible and problem solve where necessary and be willing to complete mandatory training courses. Care assistant or nursing experience would be an advantage.

Day Hospice Unit, 37 Racecourse Road Ayr.

Restrictions

16 years and above.

Training and Induction Details

The volunteer will have initial induction meeting, giving a brief outline of what The Ayrshire Hospice is all about. The volunteer will have ongoing support and supervision.

Frequency & Commitment

9.20a.m. – 4 p.m. (or 1 p.m. if full day not possible) with lunch break to suit needs of the routine. Tea/coffee breaks with patients and staff.
