About Opportunity
This opportunity involves working with small groups of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people, providing assistance in groups which provide workshops on issuies of self esteem, personal development and provide an opportunity for social/peer support for young people. Volunteers will woprk with specific groups ( 13-17 year olds, 18-26 year olds, film project, girls group, beginners group), generally getting to know our young people, building a rapport, providing a listening support and sign-posting where necessary to other services. There is also the opportunity for volunteers to receive training in taking young people through the Youth Achievement Awards. Volunteers will receive many training opportunities, as well as opportunity for social support for themselves in terms of working with the wider volunteer and staff team.

About LGBT Youth Scotland
LGBT Youth Scotland proactively empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people to make positive choices about their lives. We take our place alongside LGBT young people to support them in securing their place throughout society as equal and active citizens, through advocating their voice, community and network of LGBT youth groups throughout Scotland. We will share what we learn in order to challenge prejudice and bring about positive change in attitudes, policy and services. Skills & Experience
We are looking for people who have a good sense of humour and are non-judgemental. People with good listening skills, and people with a basic knowledge of issues affecting LGBT young people - although training will be given in this subject.

In general these are provided monthly although they can be provided weekly on negotiation with the volunteer co-ordinator. Such information would be kept confidential from the rest of the team.

Frequency & Commitment
3 and a half hours per fortnight, although if you enjoy the opportunity this can be extended to weekly if you are happy with this.
