About Opportunity
Passionate about food & health? If you answered yes then ‘Ready, Steady get Cooking’ may be the perfect opportunity for you! Help and support children and young people to learn how to cook using fresh, healthy ingredients. ‘Ready, Steady get Cooking’ is a cookery course which is delivered to children aged P7 during the school day. The course is delivered over 4 sessions, each session is 1½ hours long. The course is a ‘hands on’ approach for the children to learn about food. The volunteer’s and children prepare a variety of dishes including soup, pasta and fruit smoothies. The course is lead by 2/3 volunteers per session and there is a step-by-step manual for the volunteers to follow for each session. ‘Ready, Steady get Cooking’ is a fun & stimulating learning course for the children to learn about food and nutrition. Healthy Valleys needs volunteers to help us deliver the course. You may have the confidence to lead the course or you may wish to assist the course leader – either way we need your help!

About Healthy Valleys
Healthy Valleys aims to promote health and well being opportunities in the Douglas and Nethan Valleys area in order to reduce health inequalities.
Skills & Experience
Must be able to cook and promote the healthy eating message; Ability to motivate children and young people and communicate effectively with them; good organisational/time management skills and understand and promote importance of healthy eating.
Travel Details
The courses are delivered in various primary schools in Clydesdale. Volunteers must live in the Clydesdale area and can claim travel expenses to and from their home to the course venue.

Training and Induction Details
Training and support will be given to the volunteer. Once the initial training has been completed the volunteer will have an opportunity to ‘shadow’ another course being delivered.

Frequency & Commitment
3 hours per week, for a 4- week period. Deliver/assist with 2 ‘Ready, Steady get Cooking’ courses per year – commitment is flexible and can be discussed.
