About Opportunity

To engage and consult with local communities using a variety of methods, including; Leaflet drops Systematic door by door engagement Approaching individuals and/or community groups in the community or at structured evenings or meetings Use of questionnaires Familiarisation with local partner agencies. In consultation with your supervisor to; Undertake informal discussion and assist individuals to make informed choices relating to volunteering, lifelong learning, training and employment opportunities by providing information and support as appropriate Signpost clients to relevant agencies and organisations To support the CLD Service in; Recording and collating information on issues and needs identified Reporting identified needs and issues to your supervisor, to help inform service planning The contribution to the promotion and development of Community Learning and Development Services in the Nithsdale area. To participate in support and supervision, training, staff meetings, and planning sessions as appropriate and required. To adhere to Dumfries and Galloway Councils Health and Safety Policy and any particular responsibilities within this. To adhere to Dumfries and Galloway Council's policies in Equal Opportunities, Equality and Diversity and Child Protection

About Community Learning and Development (Nithsdale)

Community Learning and Development (CLD) is learning and social development work with individuals and groups in their communities using a range of formal and informal methods. A common defining feature is that programmes and activities are developed in dialogue with communities and participants... (CLD's) main aim is to help individuals and communities tackle real issues in their lives through community action and community-based learning.

Skills & Experience

Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work as part of a team Able to take a democratic and non-judgemental approach when dealing with people Motivated, enthusiastic and flexable Able to conserve confidenttiality Willing to learn Knowledge of CLD services. including the voluntary Sector Experience of working with the public

Training and Induction Details

CLD Nithsdale has training courses that all volunteers are encouraged to attend. After initial training, specific workshop sessions will be organised to address any specific areas identified by the volunteer and you line manager.
