About Opportunity
Our School Speaker programme aims to help young people explore humanitarian values and encourage positive action. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the British Red Cross has an unique position in this area. School Speaker volunteers will be invited into primary and secondary schools to deliver interactive workshops on a variety of topics such as refugees and asylum seekers, HIV awareness, and the work of the Red Cross. You will need to be confident working with children and young people ensuring that appropriate facts and ideas are explored and discussion is encourage. You can also get involved in the development of resources and to influence the educational programme as it evolves.

Travel Details
The volunteering activity will take place in local schools. Our main British Red Cross offices are located in Hillington (Glasgow), Edinburgh, Falkirk and Inverness which are all acessible by public transport. We require volunteers to be comfortable travelling independently.

Training and Induction Details
A 1 day course covers an overview of the Red Cross, a refresher in presentation skills, information on specific humanitarian issues, and child protection.

Expenses Detail
Travel Expenses are reimbursed through claim forms and paid into a bank account or by cheque. Car mileage rate of 40 per mile.

Minimum of 6 sessions delivered in schools every year. If included attending training, support meetings, travel, preparation etc this equates to at around 40 hours per year. 1 year minimum commitment
