About Opportunity

Volunteers would provide a regular one-to-one interaction with clients around reading material of their interests. This may be books, poems, newspapers or magazines. Volunteers would regularly visit the clients, read to them and spend time discussing things that are of their interest.

About Birdston Day Care

We are a purpose-built facility to give elderly people who live in their own homes the opportunity to socialise and reduce isolation. To support carers by offering a short respite break. To become a part of the community and play a leading role in individual care packages which encourage links with the community by sustaining links with local churches, schools etc., Ensuring that people are treated as individuals and treated with dignity and respect.

Skills & Experience

Volunteers need to have an interest in reading and be flexible enough to the interests of the clients. They need to be caring, patient and sensitive to the needs and abilities of elderly people.

Application Form, Induction/Training, Informal Chat, Police Check, References, Trial Period

Training and Induction Details

Volunteers are given an induction to the organisation and any training that they may need for the role. They receive ongoing informal support as and when needed.
