About Opportunity

The Garden Project encourages elderly people to take an interest and get involved in gardening. The volunteer would encourage the clients to grow flowers and vegetables from seed in the greenhouses for tubs and hanging baskets. The Volunteer would provide drive and motivation for the project by encouraging clients and giving ideas as well as practical support. Clients will learn new skills and feel proud of what they grow which will also be enjoyed by others.

About Birdston Day Care

We are a purpose-built facility to give elderly people who live in their own homes the opportunity to socialise and reduce isolation. To support carers by offering a short respite break. To become a part of the community and play a leading role in individual care packages which encourage links with the community by sustaining links with local churches, schools etc., Ensuring that people are treated as individuals and treated with dignity and respect.

Skills & Experience

Volunteers need to have some experience of growing plants and be physically able to move tubs etc. They need to be caring, patient, friendly, outgoing and flexible. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ONLY DURING THE SPRING - FROM MARCH ONWARDS

Travel Details

Birdston Day Care Centre, Milton of Campsie.

Training and Induction Details

Volunteers are given an induction to the organisation and any training that they may need for the role. They receive ongoing informal support as and when needed.
