About Opportunity

Overall purpose of the Arts Ambassador role: -To give voluntary arts and crafts a voice in Community Planning; -To promote voluntary arts and crafts in your local area; -To work with local voluntary sector agencies, such as Volunteer Centres (VCs) and Councils for Voluntary Service (CVSs), to explore the needs of local arts and crafts groups and promote the benefits they produce; -To act as a link between arts and crafts groups, Local Authorities, local voluntary sector agencies and Voluntary Arts Scotland. What the Voluntary Arts Ambassador Role will entail: The following activities are examples of the diverse activities you may undertake as an Arts Ambassador -Attend appropriate meetings and events in your local area; -Act as a representative of Voluntary Arts Scotland, passing on information from us and referring questions and information back to us as necessary; -Distributing Voluntary Arts Scotland’s resources (e.g. briefings); -Participate in a National Voluntary Arts Ambassadors Network; -Give short presentations about Voluntary Arts Scotland’s work, and feedback on your work with the Community Planning Partnership; -Use your connections to maintain a standard of basic involvement in your local voluntary arts and crafts sector. About Voluntary Arts Scotland

Voluntary Arts Scotland promotes participation in the arts and crafts by supporting the development of the voluntary arts sector. We offer help and support to organisations, groups and individuals engaged in the voluntary arts through the following: -Drawing together voluntary arts and crafts groups and their representative bodies -Providing them with information, advice and training -Ensuring their interests are represented to policy makers, funders and politicians -Improving the environment for everyone participating in the arts and crafts

The voluntary arts are those arts and crafts that people undertake for self-improvement, social networking and leisure, but not primarily for payment.

Main purpose of the Voluntary Arts Ambassador’s role is to give the voluntary arts and crafts a voice in Community Planning and promote the benefits of taking part in the arts and crafts at a local level, as part of a new National initiative.

Skills & Experience

-Volunteers with a level of involvement, paid or unpaid, in their local voluntary and/or cultural sector and a willingness to represent its wider needs and interests; -An interest in the arts and crafts; -The ability to speak in public and give short presentations (training will be given); -Initiative, enthusiasm and a friendly manner; -A willingness to learn, or existing basic knowledge, about local decision making and planning in Scotland; -Experience of using computers (i.e. the internet and e-mail); -A desire to promote the arts and crafts and contribute positively to your local community.

Travel Details

The opportunity will take place across Aberdeen City, and require the Voluntary Ambassador to take part in appropriate meetings and events as agreed with local partners and VAScotland. All reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
