I volunteer with a Furniture Recyling organisation
I originally came to Castle Furniture as part of New Deal (a government work training initiative) for 13 weeks. I really enjoyed it, everyone gets on so well with each other, we’re like one big happy family, so when that ended I signed up to be a volunteer.
Drongan Health Initiative
Sean McCluskey (14), Liam McCluskey (12): Liam – I’ve been volunteering for 2 years and Sean has been doing it for 4 years. Sean – I think it’s really good to meet people in the older generation and take time to know them better. We deliver the fruit and veg to a Care Home up the road and to 4 or 5 couples
I volunteer at my local hospital
Judith Ramsay, Volunteer : In 2007 I was advised by a friend to go to the local Volunteer Centre. When I visited Volunteer Centre Borders I found them very helpful and they had me fill in forms about the kind of volunteering I was interested in and gave me a lot of information.
I volunteer for my local theatre company
Kenny Campbell, Volunteer : I’d been thinking about volunteering for a while. As a lone parent of a three-year-old, with no family nearby, I felt I was getting a bit isolated and my confidence had dropped. I passed the window of the local Volunteer Centre and saw that Theatre Hebrides was looking for a volunteer administrator. When I went into the Volunteer Centre to enquire about it they were helpful, friendly and the process was very straightforward.
